The Lucky One

Another movie after one of Nicholas Sparks' books - one of my favorite writers - "The Lucky One" is "an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love" (from Nicholas Sparks' book description). If you liked "The Notebook" or "A walk to remember" you know what I'm talking about.

Logan is an U.S. Marine serving in Iraq. After a rough night, when they lose some men, Logan finds a photo of a woman shining in the sun, with "keep safe" written on the back. He moves from his spot in the shadow to pick it up and, while he admires it, they're attacked and he's one of the lucky ones to survive. He starts to believe the picture saved his life. There's another incident that consolidates his belief about the photo, another attack where he loses one of his best friends. He tries to find the owner of the photo but, after a wile, he concludes that he must be dead. But he promised himself that, if he made it back home alive, he will find her and he will thank her for saving his life.

Back in the States, he suffers from PTSD and, even if he tries to adjust to his old life, with his family, he has difficulties. He realize he can't stay with his sister's family anymore and, haunted by dreams from Iraq, he starts the journey to find the woman in the picture. He finds her but, when he tries to tell her about the photo and that, probably, the owner of it was dead, he finds himself at a lose for words. She, on the other hand, thinks he's there for a job at her family business, a dog kennel, and gives him an application form.

Beth has an uneasy feeling about him, nevertheless her grandmother decides to give him the job. She finds herself falling for him, while he bonds with her son. Her son's father is driven by jealousy and starts threatening her with taking her son away from her if she doesn't stop her relationship with Logan. Afraid to lose her son, she tries to put a stop to her relationship with Logan, but finds herself unable to stop the growth of her feelings for him.

What will she do when she finds out he lied to her about how he came to this place, that he wasn't looking for a job, but for her? Will she be able to forgive him or will they part ways forever? I'll leave you to discover the end of the story.

As you may know, not all of Nicholas Sparks' stories have a happy ending.

Enjoy!
